An All-American Offensive Guard at Tulane, Tony Sardisco was a 6th round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 1956 but was traded to the Washington Redskins before the end of the season. Leaving the NFL, he served in the Air Force for 2 years and then played in the Canadian Football League with the Calgary Stampede. In 1960 he joined the Boston Patriots of the newly formed American Football League where he was named the Patriot’s First Team Captain that inaugural year. In 1961 he was named to the AFL’s All League team as an offensive guard.
He continued to play officially through the 1963 season. In 1964 he began coaching, primarily at the high school level until 1985. He was named to Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame in 1982 and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
