The Mad Bomber

Daryle Lamonica, a 3-year starter at Notre Dame in the Early 1960s, was chosen by both the Buffalo Bills of the AFL and Green Bay Packers of the NFL in the 1963 draft. During He spent those first years seeing spot duty and backing up Bills starter Jack Kemp until 1967 when he was traded to the Raiders.
Once in Oakland Daryle Lamonica asserted himself as one of the AFL’s best passers throwing for a league leading 30 TD passes and guiding the Raiders to a 13-1 record. His efforts landed him the All League, All Star and the 1967 AFL Player of the Year Awards.

During his his remaining time at Oakland he made the All League team once again in 1969 and All Star 3 times (1969, 1970 & 1972). In his 8 seasons with the Raiders he lost just 16 games while winning 62.  He was the Raiders starting quarterback on 5 AFL Western Division Title teams and the AFL Championship team of 1967 that faced the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl II.
