A Charter member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963. Ernie Nevers was a star running back at Stanford during his college days before attempting an uneventful baseball career. In 1926 he joined the Duluth Eskimos and played 38 games over the next 2 seasons with them being named 1st-Team All Pro both seasons. After sitting out 1928 with an injury he returned to football in 1929 with the Chicago Cardinals and and remained with them until 1931 again making All Pro each season.

During his first season as a Pro with the Duluth Eskimos Ernie Nevers played in 29 games and all but 1 was on the road – keep in mind he played both offense as and defense and reportedly missed only 29 minutes of playing time during that season.
In 1929 he was a player/coach with the Chicago Cardinals and set an NFL record 40 points scored in one game – 6 touchdowns and 4 xtra points against the crosstown rival Bears who had a player by the name of Red Grange on their team.
